Osey is a small meditation app. It is designed to work without an account, to collect only what makes your sittings better, and to say plainly what it does with every piece of it.

If you use Osey without signing in

Your intentions, sittings, streaks, and saved passages stay in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device except as described below.
The intention you type is sent to our server to choose a passage and compose your meditation. It is processed by AI providers (Anthropic for text; OpenAI or ElevenLabs for the optional voice) under their API terms, and is not used by them to train their models.
Your responses around a sitting are stored with its context (your intention, the passage, the length): the feeling word you choose afterward, your answers to the small “for tomorrow” questions, any note you leave, and any moment you mark by tapping during the sitting (the tap's time and the line it belonged to). If you flag a sitting, the narration being flagged is stored so we can review it.
Basic rate-limiting uses your IP address transiently. Anonymous, aggregate page analytics (no cookies, no cross-site tracking) tell us pages loaded and roughly from where.

If you create an account

Sign-in is handled by Clerk. We store your email address and a display name if you provide one.
Your sittings, saved passages, and preferences are stored in our database so they follow you across devices, and your responses are linked to your account so your next sitting can fit you better.

How Osey learns

Everything Osey keeps is held to one test: does it make a sitting better?

Your responses tune your own practice — how long the silences run, the pace of the voice, which passages Osey reaches for when you arrive with a familiar intention.
In aggregate, responses teach Osey which passages genuinely help. What pools is deliberately narrow: counts against a passage — how often it was marked, how often it was said to have landed, how far people settled — and nothing else. No text, no intentions, no account is part of that pooling, and a passage needs reports from several sittings before it counts at all.
Your words stay yours. Nothing you type or mark is ever shown to another person, and nothing you write ever appears in anyone else's meditation.

What we never do

No ads, no selling or sharing data with data brokers.
No AI-provider training on your words — the providers that compose your meditation process them under API terms that forbid it. What Osey learns from your practice stays inside Osey.
No social features that expose your practice to anyone else.

Deletion

Signed out: clear your browser storage for this site and everything local is gone. For accounts, email hi@stevemoses.com and we will delete your account, sittings, saved passages, and preferences promptly. Responses you've left around sittings are detached from your identity and kept in anonymous form — say so in your email if you want those removed as well, and we will remove them.
